Nightblade is the only class that has a vanish skill that lets you get out of sticky situation or prepare your most devastating attacks. Assassination Nightblades will be all about dealing damage (or buffing themselves to do the most damage). Shadow is the skill line you want to follow if you want to get utility abilities that will make you vanish and do the most damage while surprising your enemies. Siphoning is more about DOTs and leaching health. Great for weakening mobs while staying alive. Blood Mother
The problem i encountered the most as a nightblade was a lack of sufficient heals, or at least once my life started to drop being unable to bring it up fast enough. With this build Im capable of always having a HoT (Blood Craze) running to heal me slightly over time. Swallow soul increases the heal from Blood Craze, refreshing path, Bats, and swallow soul itself. Shadowy Disguise and concealed weapon are used to cause a little mayhem, combined with combat rolls, to afflict as many people with blood crazes bleed as possible as well as stuns.
Refreshing path will be replaced with sap essence once i unlock it, so far refreshing path has been working fine in pve. In pvp i generally sneak into keeps and use the hallways to keep people on the path to do as much damage as possible. If they try to avoid the path it gives me time to pop a shadow and switch to a new area.
