Bethesda have released a new trailer for ESO Morrowind, titled A New Chapter in Vvardenfell. The trailer is a mix of gameplay footage, player reactions and developer commentary. It shows off some of the new locations, activities and more. Basically, it’s nothing new, but it can help tide you over until the expansion is released.
From what they’ve decide to show, we can see mostly TES3 veterans being excited to experience this new (but old) version of Vvardenfell. It’s pretty faithful to the original, but game director Matt Firor is quick to point out they’ve given it a unique spin. It takes place 700 years before the events of TES3, so the landscape is different, speaking culturally, politically, sociologically as well as geographically.
A lot of the players they’ve interviewed were people to whom Morrowind was one of the first (if not the first) gaming experiences. The rest only mention it as their favorite entry in the series. It’s no wonder – TES3 was by far the best Elder Scrolls game in every way. Having a chance to revisit it in a fresh, new way is appreciated by a lot of the fanbase.
If you haven’t tried the original Morrowind, there’s still time to get acquainted with it before TES: Morrowind’s launch on June 6th. You can get it cheap on Steam, along with both expansions, and the graphical mods available make it look better than a lot of modern games – if you have the hardware to support them. If nothing else, you deserve a chance to experience what ES was like when it was weird and funny, before it settled in the medieval fantasy world it is now known for. The only downside is that you can’t really play it with friends, although there are a couple of mod crews working on solving even that, 15 years after release.
